The latest One UI 6.1 OS update is causing issues for some users. The latter complain of a touch screen which no longer responds or which responds very poorly since installation.
With One UI 6.1, Samsung is following up on its Samsung Galaxy S23. Released in the first quarter of 2023, the smartphone benefits from a One UI update, numbered 6.1, to obtain new capabilities. The Korean group was notably responsible for bringing Galaxy AI, its set of artificial intelligence features which constituted the major new feature of the Galaxy S24, released a few months ago.
If the update was particularly awaited by users of the Galaxy S23, an excellent smartphone as we noted in our test, everything did not go as planned. Over the past few days, numerous comments have been popping up on the Web complaining about problems that occurred after installation.
Screens that no longer respond on the Galaxy S23
The complaints focus in particular on the Galaxy S23’s screen. Several users are complaining about screen response issues. For some, the touch screen simply no longer works. For others, only the S Pen, the stylus produced by the brand, is recognized by the screen, but finger movements are no longer detected. Only a restart can possibly resolve the problem, which may return after some time.
Most complaints come from users who do not have an original screen installed on their smartphone. They probably had to have their screen replaced by a third-party repairer after a fall. The problem remains despite everything, and Samsung had to react quickly.
The Google app appears to be the crux of the problem, but a fix is already available
The Korean manufacturer’s teams quickly investigated to find the cause of the problem and provide a solution. According to them, the origin of the bug comes from Google, and more precisely from the search giant’s application. Google Discover, the page giving access from the smartphone’s home screen to news related to the user’s interests, was not compatible with One UI 6.1, leading to the screen problems encountered.
Google teams were quickly informed by Samsung and have been offering a fix for several hours. To get it, simply go to the Google Play Store, search for the Google app and download the latest update offered, if it has not already been downloaded automatically.
Samsung also advises, after installing the package, to delete the application data. To do this, go to the Samsung Galaxy S23 settings, then tap on “Applications”, and then on “Google”. Finally press “Storage” and “Clear data”. All you have to do is restart your phone to complete the operation. Screen issues should be a thing of the past.
Samsung will probably quickly offer a system update which will prevent other users from encountering these screen problems, without having to carry out all these manipulations.

The most compact Galaxy S23 is undoubtedly a success. We appreciate the quality of the screen, the overall performance and its energy efficiency in normal use. Samsung also had the good idea of better integrating the back camera modules into the rear panel. The photo/video part evolves in very small steps. We would have liked Samsung to be a little more daring and upgrade the hardware characteristics.
We still regret the lack of supply of a charger with the S23 and especially the slowness of the “quick” charge, especially compared to what the competition offers.
And the price in all this? It is high, much too high: 959 euros for the 8/128 GB model (equipped with UFS 3.1 storage, less efficient than the UFS 4.0 equipping the rest of the range) and 1019 for the 8/256 GB version. How long gone are the days when the Galaxy S was not worth more than 500 euros…
