Samsung Galaxy S22: Why a fan edition could never come to market

After several delays, Samsung only presented the last fan edition in January and didn’t exactly cause a storm of enthusiasm. Without any real strengths, the Galaxy S21 FE made a rather carelessly thrown together impression in our test. The Koreans will probably not repeat this mistake with the S22, because an S22 FE will not even exist.

That’s according to inside information obtained by South Korean tech blogger Naver. Accordingly, there is unusually little evidence of the development of a fan edition of the Galaxy S22. This should not be a matter of delay, but of intention.

Neither software nor hardware in development

With the exception of the S21 FE, the fan editions of the Galaxy models are usually released in autumn. A timely development would have to be in full swing in the spring. For the S22 FE, however, there’s no evidence that software or hardware is even in the works.

A clear indication that Samsung might not have planned a fan edition for its top model this year. Nothing definitive about a deletion of the variant is known yet. After the rather mediocre performance of the last fan edition, however, it could make sense.

Missing right to exist?

Because Samsung already offers the Galaxy S22 in three variants. An additional one has the potential to either compete with its own base model or serve as a new tail light – as with the S21 FE. The A53 and A33, whose predecessors were among the global bestsellers, are more suitable for Samsung beginners.

The Galaxy S22 FE could therefore be completely canceled due to a lack of raison d’être. Compared to the practical Galaxy Note 21, the S22 FE will probably not be sorely missed.
