After months of data sheets in nature, stolen photos and other leaks of all kinds, it is finally time for Samsung to officially present the Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The summary of announcements

The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked conference live

H-1

The Galaxy Unpacked live starts in an hour!

6:40 p.m.
Another 20 minutes

There are only 20 minutes left to discover the new Galaxy products.

18:48
Little editing while waiting

In the meantime, Samsung scrolls through the three sensors of its S23 and highlights what we guess is a night mode to take a picture of the moon.

18:58
It will start!

The conference is about to start. Make yourself comfortable, it shouldn’t take long: departure at 7 p.m.!

19:04

Let’s go

The conference starts. It opens with an intervention by TM Roh which recalls the importance of the S range. Premium cameras which take good photos, which last a long time and which perform well.

19:07
The conference will be ULTRA

Boom. TM Roh announces that there will be a Galaxy Book Ultra this year. It also highlights the first design elements of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The whole conference is filmed with this phone, moreover, enough to show the performance in concrete terms.

19:11

And here are the S23s with Ridley Scott

There you go, we now know the design of the Galaxy S23. The S23 and S23 plus are therefore inspired by their big brother and get rid of their photo block to get even closer to the old Note range. Samsung repeats that the conference is filmed with Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Ridley Scott, the famous director of Alien and Gladiator, lent his talents to Samsung by filming a movie called Behold using the Galaxy S23 Ultra. This is reminiscent of Kathryn Bigelow who had been put forward by Apple.

19:15
Focus on photo and video

We are interested in the sensor of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, now capable of shooting in 4K 60 FPS at the front and at the back. This is partly due to the 200-megapixel sensor, offering 16-in-1 pixel binning to switch to 12-megapixel shots. The 8K is also capable of increasing 30 FPS from now on.

Camera Assistant, the application that allows access to more flexibility in the use of the camera. It is now possible to deactivate the automatic sensor change there. A new night mode is also appearing to give full scope to astrophotography.

19:21
The conference turns into a film festival

It is filmmaker Na Hong-Jin’s turn to invite himself to the conference. He too made a film for Samsung using the S23 Ultra. Plunged into the dark, the sequence makes it possible to highlight the talents of the phone in terms of HDR capture.

Nightography is making a comeback. This was the marketing term introduced last year by Samsung to promote the great qualities of its device in night conditions. On the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the OIS can withstand movements twice as large as the S22 Ultra. Noise reduction has also been improved, as well as overexposure.

Another novelty highlighted, the autofocus has gone to dual pixel on all sensors. Enough to ensure a faster but also more precise focus.

19:29

Summary of photo configurations

Here is a full summary of the photo capabilities of the three devices.

19:32

S23 performance

This is one of the novelties of the year, the batteries of the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus gain 300 mAh each compared to the previous generation.

Another major novelty is the arrival of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, slightly customized “for Galaxy” for the occasion. It would offer 34% gain on the CPU, 49% on the NPU and 41% on the GPU. The latter also includes a module capable of managing Ray Tracing.

No jealousy about the brightness, the whole range will integrate 1750 nits screens.

19:38

A Galaxy Book Ultra

Surprise (or not), Samsung unveils a new range of PCs with the Galaxy Book Ultra. Very thin design, Intel Core i7 or i9, RTX 4050 or 4070, there is enough power to do. The device includes a 16-inch AMOLED screen refreshed in 120 Hz as well as thunderbolt 4 ports.

19:41
PC ecosystem

Like all manufacturers, Samsung highlights the qualities of its ecosystem. The Galaxy Books can communicate easily with the Galaxy S23 or the Galaxy Tab S8. A lot of small features were shown like screen sharing or password sharing.

The Galaxy Book Ultra can be rotated 360 degrees to turn into a touch tablet with stand.

Here is a full summary of Galaxy Book capabilities:

19:45
What’s new in One UI

Samsung highlights the new features of One UI 5. The lock screen is now more customizable. The security center should also help protect your phone when it is placed for repair. Convenient.

You can use the S Pen to type directly into Chrome’s search bar.

19:47
Two Freestyle in one

Small nice novelty (even if it is difficult to imagine who could benefit from it for real) it is now possible to merge the images of two Freestyle projectors to obtain a better quality image.

19:49

The prices

Here are the full prices of the products presented tonight:

We start with the Galaxy S23 (beware the prices are in dollars) and surprise, the price of the Galaxy S22 drops for the occasion.

Here are the prices of the laptops:

Ecology point

We have already criticized Samsung for its lack of precision in its ecological commitments. Tonight, the mark was much more precise than usual. We can cite for example its Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, made with 22% recycled glass.

The Korean group continues its commitment to the duration of updates by once again promising four years of Android updates.

19:58
Qualcomm and Google on stage

Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, who can welcome the arrival of Snapdragon on all Galaxy S, takes the stage. He is accompanied by Hiroshi Lockheimer, vice president at Google and one of the founding members of Android.

TM Roh made it clear that the XR, meaning augmented reality, would be Samsung’s next chapter.

Lockheimer came to highlight the various improvements of One Ui 5 related in particular to the better integration of Google applications.

20:03
It’s over

Well finally, no big surprise announcements on this conference, but all the same the Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy Book, including the arrival of an Ultra model. It’s already good ! We will use the coming weeks to test these devices as necessary.

What products are expected for this conference?

Without divulging anything, it seems very clear that the Samsung Galaxy S23 will be the stars of the evening. All three phones have been subject to multiple leaks and Samsung has even confirmed things like the presence of a 200 megapixel sensor in the lineup. The main novelty this year would be based on the performance of the three phones, since we should finally see the transition to Snapdragon for Europe.

For the rest of the products expected this evening, we also hope for the release of Galaxy Books, portable PCs that look like MacBooks, some models of which have the ability to rotate their screen 360 degrees.

Samsung should also present the latest version of its interface, One UI 5.1. We hope for news of future Galaxy tablets, but there have been no rumors suggesting a release in this direction in recent weeks. As for watches, headphones or even folding smartphones, Samsung generally favors the month of August.
