Samsung Galaxy S23: Is it worth the wait?

It will probably be a few months before the Samsung Galaxy S23 actually appears. However, the rumor mill is already running hot. The most exciting rumor is that Samsung is said to be dropping its own Exynos processor for the S23 and instead relying on a Snapdragon SoC from Qualcomm worldwide. This should please some European fans in particular, who are rather critical of the Exynos chip.

With the Galaxy S23, Samsung also wants to counteract the comparatively rather disappointing camera of the S22. An as yet unspecified sensor with 200 MPixel is to be used. That doesn’t sound bad at first, but the new sensor in the S22 already backfired, so that the Galaxy S21 still holds the Galaxy crown here.

So should we now wait for the Samsung Galaxy S23?

Our assessment

It remains to be seen whether the Galaxy S23 will be the next big hit. What is almost certain, however, is that Samsung will not offer the S23 at a bargain price. In addition, further development in general has slowed down considerably. A few years ago you noticed a real leap in performance and camera quality with each new generation, but the current improvements are so small that you hardly notice any difference or even no difference at all in everyday life. As long as a smartphone is still supported by the manufacturer, it is therefore not a problem to skip a generation or two.

Conversely, this means that if you are looking for a really good Samsung smartphone with great photo quality, good battery life and a fast Qualcomm processor, our tip is not to wait, but to go Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G to grab. Here you get a real high-end device that – presumably – should cost less than half of what you can put on the table for the S23 at the market launch.
