Samsung presented its new foldable smartphones on Wednesday. It’s all in the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4.

On August 10th, Samsung invited to another event under the motto “Galaxy Unpacked”. The South Korean electronics giant focused primarily on the presentation of the new foldables Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4 – i.e. smartphones that can be folded up. The manufacturer not only wants to go unconventional paths with the foldables, but also make them mainstream, it said in the presentation.

The Galaxy Z Flip4

First, Samsung introduced the new Galaxy Z Flip4, which comes with an improved camera system that offers a wide-angle and an ultra-wide-angle camera with 12 megapixels each and a front camera with 10 megapixels. The so-called FlexCam mode, which is activated when users only partially open the smartphone, is particularly exciting. This not only allows you to take pictures and videos at different angles, it also makes a tripod unnecessary.

When unfolded, the device’s display has a diagonal of 6.7 inches in the full rectangle. Meanwhile, users of the Galaxy Z Flip4 can also use many of the functions via a front display without opening the smartphone. You can not only make calls and answer messages, but also pay digitally when shopping, for example.

Inside is a first-generation Snapdragon 8+ processor and 8 gigabytes of RAM. A battery with 3,700 mAh provides enough power to drive the smartphone and, thanks to a quick charge function, according to the manufacturer, can be charged up to 50 percent in around half an hour. And of course the 5G standard is also supported.

The Galaxy Z Flip4 comes in the colors “Bora Purple”, “Graphite”, “Pink Gold” and “Blue”, but is also exclusively available online in a Bespoke Edition, where users can give the device their own color combinations. The smartphone is available for pre-order now and is expected to be available in the US, Korea and several European countries from August 26th. Depending on the version – up to 512 gigabytes of storage space available – the device costs between 1,099 euros and 1,279 euros.

The Galaxy Z Fold4

The big Brother, the Galaxy Z Fold4, also offers, among other things, a flex mode that works at angles between 75 and 115 degrees. A new taskbar, which can be used to call up recently used or preferred apps, should also enable a layout similar to that of a PC, among other things.

A camera system is installed here with a wide-angle camera with 50 megapixels, an ultra-wide-angle camera (12 MP) and a telephoto lens (10 MP) as well as an under-display (4 MP) and a front camera (10 MP) on the front. When unfolded, the main display offers 7.6 inches in a full rectangle and an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. A Snapdragon 8+ chip is also used here. In terms of RAM, however, Samsung has increased it to 12 gigabytes.

5G support is also offered again for a fast internet connection. Two batteries provide a total capacity of 4,400 mAh and should also get users through the day. As with the Flip model, Samsung also offers a quick charge function here.

According to the manufacturer, both devices are the most robust foldables from Samsung to date. They are IPX8 certified and therefore water resistant.

The Galaxy Z Fold4 is available in the colors “Graygreen”, “Beige” and “Phantom Black” as well as in “Burgundy” exclusively in the online shop. The device – up to one terabyte of storage space – can also be pre-ordered, will also be available from August 26 and costs between 1,799 euros and 2,159 euros.
