Anyone who decides in favor of the new Samsung clamshell phone Galaxy Z Flip 4 by August 25, 2022 can collect up to 950 euros exchange bonus when sending in an old device. We took a closer look at the campaign and revealed whether it was worth it.
Pre-order Galaxy Z Flip 4: How the trade-in promotion works
Samsung has his new clamshell phones Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Fold 4 presented and again you can as part of a Pre-order promotion get a lot of money for your old smartphone, wearable or tablet (see campaign at Samsung). With the Flip 4 it is up to 950 euros, with the Fold 4 even 1,000 euros. You also get one year of Samsung Care+ for free. I’ll focus on the Flip 4 below because it’s the much more popular device with Samsung’s iconic flip mechanism.
The trade-in bonus consists of an exchange premium of 150 euros and up to 800 euros for the old device. So you will definitely get the 150 euros – but only if you pre-order the Galaxy Z Flip 4 by August 25, 2022 with or without a contract (view cheap offers with a contract at DeinHandy). How much you get for your old device depends primarily on the model. For a Galaxy S22 Ultra with 1 TB there is the highest bonus of 800 euros, for an Honor Magic Watch at least 160 euros. Since the new foldables cost at least 1,099 euros, this is a welcome financial relief. However, Samsung smartphones are not exactly known for their price stability and it can be assumed that the price of the new clamshell phones will also drop significantly a few months after the market launch.

Old devices campaign at MediaMarkt & Amazon
Of course you can also order the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Fold 4 in other shops, but the pre-order campaign works a little differently there. at MediaMarkt you get, for example, a maximum of only 720 euros for your old device and a minimum of 120 euros (view at MediaMarkt). However, the campaign is valid until September 30th, 2022, which is significantly longer than with Samsung. You can return your old smartphone to a local market until October 16th. If you buy it online, you even have until October 30th to send in your old cell phone. However, only smartphones are listed among the participating devices; Samsung, on the other hand, also accepts old smartwatches and tablets in part exchange.
at Amazon The whole thing works a little differently: In order to get the 150 euro exchange bonus (like with Samsung), you have to purchase the Galaxy Z Flip 4 in the promotional period between August 10th, 2022 and August 25th, 2022 (view at Amazon). However, you will only get the bonus credited to your Amazon account if you trade in your old smartphone. This is possible via the “Trade in and save” button on the right side of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 product page. Here, too, only smartphones are available and the bonus is lower at first glance compared to Samsung and MediaMarkt. After you have sent in your old device, you must redeem the promotional discount by September 15, 2022 at the latest.
Conclusion: It’s worth comparing!
To find out whether the Samsung pre-order campaign for the new foldables is worth it for you, you should first check Samsung and the other shops how much you can get for your old device. If you want to trade in a tablet or smartwatch, Samsung is the only option anyway. If you want to get rid of your old cell phone, you should also compare in other shops how much you get for it and whether you can also dust off the 150 euro exchange bonus for the Flip 4 or 200 euros for the Fold 4. In the end, the campaign is only worthwhile if you want to be one of the first owners of the new Samsung smartphones, because the prices will drop significantly in just a few months.
