Will the Galaxy S23 Ultra be a real endurance runner? For the next smartphone flagship, Samsung could rely on a new technology that should significantly reduce battery consumption. The South Koreans’ latest folding cell phone could serve as a model.
Recently, Samsung ignited a real product firework. In addition to the Galaxy Watch 5 (Pro) and new headphones, the South Korean manufacturer also presented the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4. The latter has a new display on board that has a special feature – and that doesn’t mean the possibility of folding.
New Samsung display consumes 25 percent less energy
Samsung’s new display generation is called “Eco² OLED Plus” and should be compared to its predecessor Use 25 percent less energy (Source: SamMobile). Screens are by far the biggest energy guzzlers in modern smartphones. If Samsung can reduce the energy consumption here by a quarter, it should have a noticeable positive effect on the battery life.
If the past serves as a yardstick, Samsung should be its new and energy-saving displays also be installed in the upcoming Galaxy S23 series. At least the more expensive Ultra model and the Plus version of the new flagship generation should have a power-saving screen.

Together with new and hopefully more energy-efficient Qualcomm chips and a constantly high battery capacity, which should continue to be 5,000 mAh like in the predecessor, the Galaxy S23 Ultra could become a real battery champion. But we know for sure whether it will really come to that at the earliest in spring 2023. Then the presentation of the new S23 series from Samsung is expected.
