The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 have not yet been released, but we are already discovering some information related to their successors, expected in 2023.

Over the months, rumors and other leaks have shed some light on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, which Samsung is due to present in a few weeks. It is now the turn of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, expected next year, to be the subject of first information. We learn in this case from the Korean media ETNews that Samsung would have big plans for its vintage 2023 folding smartphones.

Sales targets on the rise

First, Samsung would once again raise its sales targets. For its Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4, the brand would expect 15 million units to sell over their entire operating period. For their successors, Samsung would like to go even further: sell no less than 10 million units in the first six months after their launch (and therefore only in the second half of 2023). To achieve this goal, the Korean giant would rather bet on its Z Flip 5, with a sales target set at 8 million just for this model, against 2 million only for the Fold 5.

As a reminder, the cumulative sales of the current Fold 3 and Flip 3 reached 7.1 million units in almost a year of marketing. Samsung would therefore plan to take a big step with its next two generations of folding devices. It remains to be seen whether production and consumers will follow suit.

Some first technical information

We also begin to discover some technical elements. As for the Galaxy Z Fold 5, the device would retain three image sensors on the back, with a 50MP ISOCELL GN3 as the main photo module. A 12 Mpx selfie camera would also be on the menu but it would not be accompanied by a second front sensor. Presumably, Samsung would mainly seek to improve the current front camera, housed under the screen.

Note that at this stage, the photo part of the Z Flip 5 would not yet be finalized, explains 9to5Google, which seems logical: we are more than a year away from its launch. Regardless of the model chosen, Samsung would work on the integration of the future Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This chip will replace the high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 launched last May.
