Google has already completed Android 13, but hardly any manufacturer has updated their smartphones to the latest version. An innovation is introduced there that has been around for a long time, but which many manufacturers such as Samsung have ignored. Google is changing that now.
Samsung must use “Seamless Updates” with Android 13
Already with Android 11 “Seamless Updates” (in German: “seamless updates”) for smartphones, tablets and other Android devices were introduced. The internal memory is divided so that an update can be installed during use and integrated after a restart without waiting. But hardly any manufacturer has copied this function, although it offers great advantages. With Android 13, however, Google is now taking action. New smartphones that have Android 13 pre-installed must also use “Seamless Updates”:
This means that the Samsung Galaxy S23 with Android 13 must also have this function activated. So far it was optional and was used by almost no manufacturer. Google itself uses the function on Pixel phones. This is noticeable, Android updates are absolutely no longer a problem. They are displayed you can start the installation and everything happens in the background, while continuing to use the smartphone without any problems. After a single restart, everything is installed immediately without waiting and you can use your mobile phone as usual.
Especially with big updates like from Android 12 to 13, this was a real blessing on the Google Pixel 6 Pro. Not only the waiting time, but also the uncertainty when installing an update is eliminated, unlike what is known from Samsung. Especially with the monthly updates, you won’t be as annoyed as with other cell phones that don’t support seamless updates, since the installation takes place completely in the background.

As the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, Samsung is only the most famous example. All manufacturers who release Android devices with Android 13 must use and activate “Seamless Updates”. It is quite possible that this will improve the update speed for companies that have not previously delivered as quickly. However: If a smartphone is updated to Android 13, the rule does not apply. Only new devices released with Android 13 pre-installed are affected.
