Samsung: images and specifications of the firm’s next VR headset on the run!

In February of this year, Samsung had officially announced the development of an XR helmet below android (like the Meta Quest 3). This time it’s the Chinese media VRTUOLUO who has just shared the images and specificities of said helmet.

Processor

First thing to know, the headset will not carry a processor Qualcomm but a good one CPU homemade: theExynos 2200. Produced by Samsungreleased in 2022, the chip should be halfway between the power of a Quest 2 and a Quest 3. But what challenges us is the choice of this chip, known (in the world of smartphones) for its high energy consumption and overheating problems. As you will have understood, this is much more problematic for a device to be inserted around the head. Let’s bet that Samsung will do what is necessary, in particular by proposing a ventilation system worthy of the name.

On the optical side, two micro-OLED screens would be included,
providing (compared to LCD) higher contrast and more vivid colors. On the other hand, we don’t know what the definition of the slabs will belet’s hope it’s at least comparable to the Meta Quest Proalthough the latter had made us, at the time, aware (compared to the pic 4) that a high definition was not necessarily synonymous with image sharpness. Regarding the lenses, we are on pancakes, which, let’s remember, makes it possible to have a point of sharpness much wider than the lenses of fresnel.

4 tracking cameras, all arranged like Meta Quest 2,
this is what the next helmet of Samsung. The analogy with the Meta Quest 3 is no less present since the prototype presents 2 RGB cameras to ensure a pass-through of quality as well as a depth sensor in order to better apprehend its environment.

Surprisingly, the device will not have (like theApple Vision Pro) of controllers. The follow-up will then be done with the hands and the eyes. This feature makes us think (with micro-OLED panels) that the helmet should face away from the gamingbut towards a multimedia experience. In other words, it would not be a question of walking on the flowerbeds of Meta but rather those ofAppleoffering a cheaper system than the Apple Vision Pro (it’s not difficult!), or a price range between 1000 and 2000 dollars.

Be careful however, Samsung would be in the process (from the mouth of a Korean media) of revising the helmet following the announcement of that ofApple.
We do not know, at present, if the report of VRTUOLUO evokes the first or second prototype of the XR helmet of Samsung, but what we already know is that it shouldn’t be fundamentally different.

Google said last May that it would share more information about the headset later this year, but successive delays to the prototype review could push the deadline into next year. Unusual thing, know that the article of VRTUOLUO has been removed, officially for “differences in content” reasons, we don’t know if Samsung is there for something.

The offer for Virtual reality, like Windows portable PC consoles, is starting to expand with several manufacturers who are challenging each other on this “new” market. A plethoric offer which will surely appeal to those who wish to acquire a helmet as close as possible to their needs, but which will undoubtedly disappoint those who wanted a all-in-one unquestionably perfect. In the current state of things, all helmets on the market have advantages and disadvantages. Who knows ? Perhaps the next generation will be the right one, the one that reduces the gap between the different products, like what we currently know vis-à-vis consoles next genot.
