Samsung is definitely not done with folding smartphones. Indeed, the Korean giant intends to push the limits of these small flexible devices.

After the book format and the clamshell format, Samsung would probably work on a whole new approach to rotation.

Samsung is working on a new screen

Last year, Samsung launched its Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 on the market. Despite their many qualities, these new iterations were above all presented as simple evolutions. However, the Korean company would have greater ambitions this year for the screen of its Galaxy Z Fold 5.

A few days ago, we discovered, through the intermediary of the site The Verge, that Samsung’s future folders could feature a brand new hinge. This would further limit the crease currently present on flexible devices. Now, like our colleagues from The Verge report it to us once again, we learn that Samsung Display is developing a brand new screen prototype to say the least… original.

Galaxy Z Fold 5: a 360 degree screen?

Called “Flex In & Out”, this new screen, presented at CES 2023, has the particularity of being able to rotate 360 degrees. Yes, the idea would indeed be to allow users to fold the screen inwards and outwards. So far, Samsung has only released screens that can fold in one direction. According to the first rumors of the hallway, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 could well be the very first folding device to be able to turn 360 degrees.

If we can legitimately wonder if the Korean manufacturer is not going a little too far, we must recognize that a 360-degree foldable screen could still have its small effect with technology enthusiasts, especially if it is intelligently exploited (remains to be seen at what cost). Remember that Samsung was the first manufacturer to believe in the potential of folding smartphones, so it could surprise us once again if this screen were to see the light of day.
