  • Samsung is rumored to be unveiling two new folding phones in August.
  • However, Xiaomi could steal the attention of the South Korean manufacturer with the presentation of the Mi Car.

In August, Samsung traditionally unveils the next generation of its folding cell phones. This year, the Fold 4 and the Z Flip 4 are expected to be presented to the public on August 10th.

The date has not yet been officially confirmed by Samsung, but the usually reliable leaker Evan Blass announced on Twitter that the South Korean manufacturer is planning its Unpacked event for this day.

The date seems well chosen, because at first glance there is no threat of competition for Samsung. The IFA doesn’t start until the beginning of September, the iPhone 14 is expected in mid-September, and the Google Pixel 7 in October. But now Xiaomi of all people could play the party crasher and compete with Samsung with its own event.

As Cnevpost reports, citing Chinese media, company boss Lei Jun is to unveil a prototype of the Mi Car in August. This is surprising, after all, series production of the car is not scheduled to begin until 2024. However, the online magazine does not give an exact date. So it remains to be seen whether Xiaomi will really challenge Samsung for attention on August 10th.
