Continuity is certainly one of Apple’s features most envied by Windows and Android users. This allows you to take full advantage of your iPhone with another device in the Apple ecosystem, in particular a Mac. Links which have been further strengthened with iOS 17 which unlocks the use of an iPhone’s webcam from a Mac or an Apple TV.

Microsoft and Google are working, often in parallel, but not necessarily together, on creating a credible alternative between their respective operating systems. One of these initiatives is called “Windows Links” (Phone Link in English). It is an Android application that connects to a PC through the software “Mobile Connected” (which is installed by default on Windows 11 and is available for free on the Windows Store for Windows 10).

Samsung launches useless alternative to Ties with Windows

Links with Windows works pretty well. But some brands believe that this is not enough. This is the case of Samsung which prefers to offer its own application. This one is called “ SamsungPhone “. It is available on the Windows Store. And it is used to create a link between two devices of the brand. So, theoretically, a Galaxy (A/S/Z) and a Galaxy Book. In the product sheet of the application, the Korean firm explains that the application is mainly used to make and answer calls from the PC. This should also extend to SMS messaging. But it is not specified.

The application is compatible with Windows 10 and 11, but it is not compatible with all Samsung PCs. Only the Galaxy Book 4 is cited on the product sheet, even if the latter confirms that the application will also be supported by the firm’s future computers. As a reminder, the Galaxy Book 4 is a range of PCs unveiled in mid-December 2023, at the same time as the Galaxy S23 FE. Suffice to say that practically no Samsung customer is able to test this application at the time of writing these lines.

Few compatible PCs. Few built-in features. One wonders why Samsung is launching this alternative to Links with Windows (which the Korean firm installs by default in many phones). Hopefully, SamsungPhone will gain relevance over time.
