In the galaxy of touch tablets, it is often said that Apple does not have much to fear. With his famous iPad, the apple brand has always been the leader for many years now. But Samsung’s aggressiveness has steadily increased over time, and the Korean company has gradually established itself as a formidable competitor. Only, it seems that the place of n° 1 is not to be filled…

In terms of Android tablets, many manufacturers are now able to offer high-end equipment. The Chinese Xiaomi and Huawei are perfect examples. However, and despite their many efforts to follow Apple, on a purely hardware level, they still fail to provide an experience that is as ergonomic as on the side of the Apple brand.

Samsung, a serious competitor in the world of tablets…

In order to overcome certain problems inherent to Android on tablets, Samsung now offers a display mode exclusive to its devices, the “DeX Mode”, which solves certain scaling problems, but which above all gives it a multitasking dimension. Enough to make the South Korean a serious contender, who offers, with his Galaxy Tab 8, one of the best tablets on the market.

But, with iPadOS 16, the Cupertino company intends to continue to widen the gap with its competitors. In addition to generally offering smoother and more efficient applications, Apple’s tablets (only those equipped with the M1 processor) will soon benefit from new features that should make the iPad a more versatile device.

… but Apple wants to keep its lead with the iPad

Called “Stage Manager”, the multitasking mode of the iPad will, among other things, open applications in resizable windows or create groups of windows to bring them together by theme (work, leisure, etc.). According to the first feedback from XDA Developers, following the beta deployed last week, this mode already looks better optimized than the DeX mode offered by Samsung (whose role is initially to circumvent certain concerns related to Android). In addition, iPadOS 16 will offer you the possibility of extending the home screen to an external screen, and eight windows can be opened simultaneously.

With the new version of its operating system, the Cupertino company therefore seems to catch up with one of the delays it had accumulated with its iPads, namely multitasking. She thus manages to further widen the gap with her Korean counterpart. Anyway, Samsung probably hasn’t said its last word yet. The many efforts made by the manufacturer suggest tough competition for the next few years and encourage Apple not to rest too much on its laurels.
