After the devices of the Galaxy S22 series, other flagship smartphones from Samsung are now also receiving the update to One UI 4.1. This means that even older Samsung cell phones can now learn completely new tricks. Photo fans will especially appreciate the Expert RAW app!

After Samsung rolled out its Android 12 update faster than in previous years, Samsung promised that the new One UI 4.1 will reach all Samsung flagships running Google’s current operating system. This means that several Samsung devices from 2019 can look forward to new features.
Advanced camera features for 2 year old devices
Perhaps the biggest surprise is the announcement that the Expert RAW app will reach older flagships later this year. The app is currently available for the Galaxy S21 Ultra and the S22 series. In the course of 2022, however, it will also appear for the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Fold 3.
With the Expert RAW app, Samsung is only exploiting the full potential of the Galaxy camera. It allows us to change various parameters during recording and to save the recordings as a RAW file (“digital negative”). These can then be adjusted later during post-processing.
This might not be revolutionary for casual photographers, but for those who are still loyal to their Galaxy S20 Ultra two years after its release, it’s a nice touch. And who knows, maybe that’s a good reason to look into the advanced camera settings.
More new features
Samsung also announced other features that will come to select Galaxy models, such as the Object Eraser. The image tool works similarly to the Pixel 6’s Magic Eraser, allowing users to selectively erase unwanted objects, shadows, or even reflections from the image.
There will also be minor updates for other functions, for example for:
- The Quick Share feature that lets you instantly send multiple files at once – including photos and video.
- The Grammarly integration in the Samsung keyboard, which suggests improvements in addition to fixes
- Google Duo getting new new collaboration options.
Availability of OneUI 4.1
Unlike the Android 12 rollout, Samsung hasn’t committed to a timeline for delivering One UI 4.1, instead announcing the devices that will receive the update later this year:
Please note that not all models will receive the same features. For example, the Object Eraser tool is only supported on the S10 models and newer.
