Some time ago, Samsung introduced a new feature that allows the Galaxy smartphones to gain performance. Especially with cheap models, the effect should be clearly noticeable. But some storage space was squandered for this. Samsung will give you this back with Android 13 if you want.
Android 13: Samsung makes “RAM Plus” optional
Since 2021, Samsung smartphones will be equipped with a feature called “RAM Plus”. This provides the smartphone with virtual memory, which extends the normal memory by up to 8 GB and thus potentially increases performance. In addition, the 8 GB were deducted from the internal memory, which can become a problem if you have little storage space anyway. You can set “RAM Plus” to 2 GB, but you can’t switch it off. Exactly this feature will be introduced with Android 13 and One UI 5.0 (Source: SamMobile).
In the beta version of Android 13 and One UI 5.0 on the Samsung Galaxy S22, the Spotted option to disable “RAM Plus”.. Not only can you decide for yourself how much internal memory you want to allocate to the main memory, you also have the option of whether you want to use it at all. So far, Samsung has forced the function on you a bit, because 4 GB of internal memory was simply deducted by default. If you only have 64 GB or less, this can become critical.

Samsung’s beta testing phase started a while ago. Interested parties can download Android 13 with One UI 5.0 onto their Galaxy S22 and try it out. This also works in Germany. The test phase usually runs for a few weeks until the final version is published. With a bit of luck it will be something in September or October. Android 13 for Pixel phones from Google is already out, so the final software is available to Samsung. Then it’s just a matter of adapting the Samsung interface, which is now being carried out. So it won’t be long.
