Samsung has opened its beta program to several countries to allow the bravest mobile users to test Android 13 on the Galaxy S22. France is unfortunately not concerned, but the manufacturer takes the opportunity to give an overview of its novelties.

How the pricing table works

The largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, Samsung only has to lift a finger to move a good part of the industry. It is for this reason that the deployment of a new version of its operating system is scrutinized very closely. On August 7, 2022, the Korean firm announced that the deployment of One UI 5.0 (the overlay based on Android 13) in beta version had begun in certain countries. Unfortunately, France is not affected by this test program.

The operating system (which is not yet finalized) can be installed on the Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra, if their owner lives in South Korea, Germany or the United States. Availability in other countries (China, India, Poland, UK) is “planned for the next few months“Samsung says tersely. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can take a look at Samsung’s site to sign up as a beta tester.

The full list of changes brought by One UI 5.0 is as long as an arm, but Samsung has detailed the most interesting new features in its press release. Among them are advanced options for customizing the interface inspired by Android 13. “Users now have 16 preset themes to match their wallpaper and 12 additional color options for their home screens, icons and quick settings panels“, writes the manufacturer. Still in terms of the interface, the system allows certain widgets to be stacked on top of each other.

Samsung, good student on updates

The Korean manufacturer also indicates that new options intended for “block notifications from certain apps” have appeared. One UI 5.0 also allows you to choose the language of each application if you want to use certain software in a language other than those of the system. A management center for all security settings has also been added, as well as new accessibility options such as video description and reading typed characters.

None of this is truly groundbreaking, with a good chunk of it being native to Android 13. However, it’s nice to see that Samsung is taking the subject of updates seriously. Even if the One UI 5.0 beta is not available in France, the responsiveness with which the Korean manufacturer deploys new versions of its OS is encouraging for the future. Undoubtedly, the final version of the OS will arrive in the near future, and it will of course be installable in France.
