Samsung promises to sell recent used smartphones rather than older models


Samsung has announced that the “Refurbished by Samsung” section of its website will soon be more stocked with recent smartphones. The latter is indeed the poor relation of the South Korean giant’s online sales site. However, it is not the interested customers who are lacking.

The Korean giant is determined to ride the refurbished wave. Currently, if you click on the “Refurbished by Samsung” section, you can, if you are quick or lucky, buy sometimes nice smartphones, but most often a little old and not very innovative, like of the Galaxy Note 20. The world leader in smartphones has reportedly declared that it has every intention of offering newer smartphones in its offer of refurbished phones (“Refurbished by Samsung” or “Certified renewed” in English-speaking countries).

This is good news for customers, as not everyone will be able to afford the latest Samsung Galaxy S23 for the price of new. For these people, refurbished items are a good way to own a recent and powerful phone. Unlike a device that you would buy second-hand on a site for sale between individuals, devices reconditioned by the manufacturer (Samsung in this case) offer the same guarantees as new items. Thus, before being offered for sale on the website, smartphones refurbished by Samsung undergo more than a hundred checkpoints. If a component fails, it will be replaced. Even better, refurbished ones get a new battery, their OS is updated to the latest version, and they get a new IMEI. In other words, they really are like new.

Samsung will sell refurbished smartphones with the same warranties as new

These devices enjoy the same guarantees as a new product, namely two years of manufacturer’s warranty, and two years of guaranteed software updates. Crisis requires, sales of refurbished smartphones are only increasing. That said, none of the companies selling refurbished products has the same resources in human and financial terms as Samsung. Even well-established French companies outsource their services. If this is not problematic most of the time, things get tough for the user when the purchased product fails. The return and refund procedure can quickly become very tedious.

Samsung not only has the know-how, but also the manpower, the stock of necessary components and the logistics to intervene quickly when needed. If we add to this that the South Korean company offers the free delivery in 48 hours and that it offers payment facilities, we can imagine that very soon we will no longer see many recent Samsung smartphone models among reconditioning specialists.
