While many advertisements on sponsoring devices such as Amazon’s Kindle readers are usually still grudgingly accepted, annoying forced advertising on TV sets has been causing resentment for years – after all, televisions often cost more than 1,000 euros. This is not about TV advertising in the traditional sense: Instead, advertising tiles keep “cheating” into the main menu of the devices, the so-called Smart Hub. If you catch them navigating in the menu, the content takes up almost half the screen when navigating with the remote control. COMPUTER BILD shows how to switch off the Samsung TV advertising.
Samsung TV: Turn off ads
- Turn on the TV and switch to the TV input if necessary.
- Press the home button on your remote control and select the in the menu on the bottom left ideas.
- Choose Terms & Conditions & Privacy Policy.
- Open the option I consent to viewing information services on this TV.
- Uncheck “I agree” and click Conclude.
- From the same menu, select the option I agree to advertising based on my interests.
- Again, uncheck “I agree” and choose Conclude.
- Finally, to delete your advertising ID, navigate to Terms & Conditions & Privacy Policy to Reset PSID and confirm with Reset to default and OK.
- Close the settings by pressing the home button.
Block ads in router
Despite the advertising veto in the previous section, Samsung occasionally displays an advertising tile in the Smart Hub and advertises its “TV Plus” program or third-party video apps there. If you really want peace and quiet, block Samsung’s ad server in the Internet router – then no more advertising will appear on the television. Carry out the following steps using a FritzBox 7590 as an example. It works similarly with other models:
- Turn on the TV. Load the address on a computer fritz.box and log in.
- click on Internet, filter, lists and at “Blocked websites”. to edit.
- Type the address http://ads.samsungads.com and press Enter. Enter the address in the same way http://config.samsungads.com one. Then click Take over, access profiles and New access profile.
- For profile name, type for example SamsungTV one. Then put a tick filter websites and make sure the “Block websites” option is checked as well. Confirm with OK.
- Now click child lock, bottom right Change access profiles and look for the TV in the list – in the example “TVSamsung”. In the “Access Profiles” column, select the default default and then the new profile SamsungTV. If the device shows up a second time (for the WLAN or LAN connection), repeat that there as well.
- After clicking Take over turn off the TV and unplug it for a few minutes. After turning it on, no more ads should appear.
With this setting, you permanently remove the advertising tile from the Smart Hub. In step 3, add the address as well http://osb-apps.samsungqbe.com on, also block forced installation of apps and with http://stats.hbbtv.smartclip.net the annoying red button advertisement of the HBBTV function with every program change. Important: If you ever want to install a new app, you must temporarily unlock it. To do this, repeat step 5, set the access profile of the TV devices from SamsungTV on default and confirm with Take over. After installing the app, reactivate the “SamsungTV” access profile in the same way.
Disable Samsung HbbTV
The HbbTV (Hhybrid broad cast broad band tv) displays online content in the TV picture and, in addition to information about the current program and direct access to the broadcaster’s media library, also provides lots of advertising. If you want to deactivate the function completely, proceed as follows:
- Turn on the TV and, if necessary, switch to the TV signal.
- Press the home button on your remote control, select the in the menu ideas.
- In the next window select the entry broadcast reception and there the expert settings.
- After selecting from HbbTV settings uncheck “HbbTV”.
TV Plus: Even more advertising on TV
Until the end of August 2020, the TV Plus app could only be used in the so-called Service menu (see next section) permanently hide. This no longer works with the current firmware because the changes made there are no longer retained. Instead, Samsung finally delivered the often requested option to deactivate the app with the update. Appears in the ideas of the TV below support and software update for “Current Version” at least version number 1300, carry out the following steps. Otherwise see the next section.
- Turn on the TV and navigate to the tile in the Smart Hub TVPlus.
- On the remote control circle, press the down button and select Remove.
- In the next window select the option Deactivate.
- Ready. If you do want to use the app, add it via the menu source added again.
Remove TV Plus via service menu
If you can’t deactivate TV Plus as above, that’s up to you Service menu. This is a hidden overview for TV technicians that TV owners are not supposed to see. There is a good reason for this: Even if you suddenly find yourself in a kind of “God mode” with your TV set, the device can be badly adjusted here with the wrong option and, in the worst case, render it unusable. In the past, Samsung even threatened to void the warranty – that’s why you should stick to the instructions meticulously. You also need a conventional Samsung remote control with number keys and a full key layout – it doesn’t work with the new, slim Smart Remote. If you don’t have an old remote control, one from the flea market or from the neighbors will do. Thats how it works:
- Turn off the TV.
- Press the keys one after the other quickly info, Menu, mute and power.
- The TV will then turn on and after a few seconds it will show the blue service menu. Confirm the selection option with the enter key.
- Use the arrow key to navigate to MRI option and press Enter.
- Use the arrow keys to navigate to TV Plus support and press Enter. If the option does not appear, turn off the TV. In this case it is not possible to deactivate the function.
- Press the right or left arrow button to toggle from the ON setting OFF switch.
- Turn off the TV with the powerbutton off.
Ready. The next time you turn on the device, the TV Plus tile will no longer appear in the Smart Hub, the Smart Hub is completely ad-free. Although it may seem tempting, do not change any other settings in the service menu without knowing exactly what the effect will be. Always remember: Whatever you change or adjust on your television set, you do it at your own risk.
