At the end of 2023, Samsung is renewing its Galaxy Book range with the Galaxy Book4 series. On the program: a touch screen for all models and 14th generation Intel Core processors.

For this vintage, the Korean brand offers a series comprising four models and organized as follows: a Galaxy Book4 Ultra, available only in 16-inch version, and which has the particularity of integrating a dedicated graphics card; the Galaxy Book4 Pro, offered in 14 and 16 inch formats; the Galaxy Book4 360, a two-in-one.

All these machines inherit the latest Intel processors, the Meteor Lake Ultra, in other words the 14th generation Core laptops. In addition, these Galaxy Book4s all now benefit from a touch screen, a privilege formerly reserved for the Galaxy Book Pro 360. More precisely, Samsung has opted for a 16:10 AMOLED touch screen displaying a maximum definition of WQXGA+ (2880×1800 pixels). ). The screen supports VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) over a 48-120 Hz range and delivers a maximum brightness of 400 cd/m².

An Ultra model, necessarily a notch above

This is the era of time, Samsung touts intelligent computers; the company describes this Galaxy Book4 range as “the smartest yet”. An assertion justified by the integration of Meteor Lake processors, which effectively focus on AI workloads thanks to the integration of an NPU (Neural Processing Unit).

Samsung does not specify which exact references equip its computers. The company simply provides Core Ultra 9 and Ultra 7 for the Ultra model, Core Ultra 7 and Core Ultra 5 for the others.

Moreover, the adoption of an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor is not the only exclusivity enjoyed by the Galaxy Book4 Ultra: it is the only one to include a dedicated graphics card; in this case, a GeForce RTX 4050 or an RTX 4070 (already offered with the Galaxy Book3 Ultra).

In addition, this Ultra version has up to 64 GB of LPPDR5x compared to a maximum of 32 GB for its smaller sisters, and up to 2 TB of internal storage instead of 1 TB.

Compared to the previous generation, the Galaxy Book4 Ultra also benefits from a new cooling system which reduces both heat and fan noise. In practice, the PC has a vapor chamber 11% larger than before and a double fan.

Still for the Ultra model, Samsung also highlights increased energy efficiency; only this arises mainly from the processor (the battery capacities have not changed compared to last year), and must therefore concern the entire range. On the other hand, where the Book4 Ultra stands out compared to the Book3 Ultra, it is on its adapter, which provides 140 W and no longer 100 W. Samsung thus reports 55% charge in just 30 minutes.

Launch in early 2024

To strengthen security, Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Book4 Pro, Pro 360 and Ultra with its new Samsung Knox security chip. This one “protects the most critical system data separately, adding an extra level of security to the multi-layered protection developed with Intel and Microsoft”explains the company.

For the sound part, this Galaxy Book4 series integrates Dolby Atmos compatible AKG speakers. The pair of mics with two-way noise reduction uses AI to better discriminate voice during calls in noisy environments.

Finally, these Book4s support Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth v5.3 connectivity. They are of course perfectly integrated into the Samsung ecosystem and offer functionalities linked to the brand’s smartphones, tablets or headphones.

These Galaxy Book4s will be released in South Korea from January 2024 and around the world in the following weeks. We gave the Galaxy Book3 Pro an 8 out of 10, so we’re hoping for an equally attractive successor. Prices have not been revealed at this time.
