Samsung unveils the 990 Pro, a PCIe 4.0 SSD that reaches 7.45 GB / s

Initially expected in PCIe 5.0 on the basis of a listing from the body that manages this standard, Samsung’s 990 Pro internal SSD finally supports “only” the PCIe 4.0 standard.

The 990 Pro is available in 1 and 2 TB versions, while a 4 TB version is expected a little later. Each of the sizes is sold with or without a heatsink.

On the performance side, Samsung indicates that it is approaching the theoretical limit of 8000 MB/s of the PCIe 4.0 standard. The 990 Pro thus reaches 7450 MB/s in reading and 6900 MB/s in writing, and IOPS of 1400K in reading and 1500K in writing.

A version with a heatsink is obviously included, and Samsung gives in to the RGB mode. The 990 Pro equipped with this heatsink remains compatible with consoles, laptops and PCs, since it does not exceed 8.8 mm in thickness.

The 990 Pro will be available in October for €189.90 in 1 TB and €359.90 in 2 TB. It is guaranteed for 5 years.
