Finally ! The very first HDR 10+ game will finally make its way into our homes! And it is not the publisher of the game in question to whom we owe this announcement, but Samsung, one of the instigators of the HDR 10+ technology launched 6 years ago already.
Announced in 2017 by Samsung and Amazon, HDR 10+ technology is still slow to come to the gaming world today. However, this standard has been adopted by many players, and not the least: Google, Apple, Panasonic, Qualcomm, Warner, Broadcom, Oppo, all have answered the call. But no game has taken advantage of it so far, despite an initial announcement by Samsung in October 2021.
Things should change soon, since the South Korean manufacturer has finally formalized the very first game in history to support HDR 10+. No, it’s not a blockbuster like Starfield, but a slightly more confidential title: The First Descendant.
The First Descendant becomes the first game compatible with HDR 10+ technology
The First Descendant is a fairly classic shooter, which can be played solo or with others (up to 4 simultaneously). This is a 3rd person free-to-play, developed by Nexon using Unreal Engine 5. But this is not the most relevant information. In reality, it is above all the very first to exploit HDR10 Plus technology.
The main advantage of this technology lies in its ability to automatically adjust brightness and colorimetry, depending on the capabilities of the screen. No need to juggle with the manual settings of the device, the techno HDR10 Plus takes care of everything. Samsung also points out that its technology is compatible with different refresh rates and that it takes advantage of very low latency.
Of course, to take advantage of the benefits of this technology, it is necessary to have an HDR 10 Plus compatible screen or television. The brand’s high-end TV models are, as are the screens in the Odyssey range, such as the G7 or the Neo G7 Mini-Led. Samsung has yet to reveal what hardware the game will be compatible with, but chances are it will be on PC only. As a reminder, in November 2022, Nvidia announced that its Geforce RTX graphics cards are capable of exploiting this technology.
If you already have these different components (Samsung screen, PC and RTX card), you should therefore be able to test The First Descendant in HDR 10+, the first beta of which is expected September 19, 2023.
