How ? You’re not ready for a new generation of graphics cards ? NVIDIA and its partners may not expect you.

GDDR6 and GDDR6X have shared favor with our favorite GPUs for far too long! For the next generation signed NVIDIA, there should therefore be a leap forward in terms of video memory.

Goodbye 24 Gbps GDDR6X…

It’s no secret, and certainly not for the regular readers of Clubic, in July 2022, Samsung had put forward its ” brand new » GDDR6 at 24 Gbps.

The objective of this video memory was of course to bring some air to the most demanding GPUs. In other words, not at all those who would one day have the honor and the advantage of ending up on your PC. Yet a close partner of Samsung, NVIDIA itself had not used this video memory on its GeForce RTX 4090, preferring Micron’s GDDR6X.

However, it was only a postponement for our two friends, and Igor’s Lab today echoes a piece of news that is nothing, but really nothing of a surprise.

… and hello GDDR7 32 Gbps

Indeed, our colleague quotes businesskorea to discuss the future of video memory chips, while GDDR sees its turnover grow year by year, and that by 2030, this market could represent 4.8 billion dollars, compared to its 3.2 billion in 2018.

This market whets the appetites of Samsung, but also of its competitor and compatriot SK Hynix. Finally, let’s not forget the current leader in this market, the American Micron, even if our colleague’s source does not seem to make much of it. businesskorea rather insists on the link between NVIDIA and Samsung around GDDR7. The second would even have already delivered chips to the first, which would work on their integration into its next GPUs.

If it is not yet a question of announcing a partnership between NVIDIA and SK Hynix, the latter would be in the wheel of Samsung. Its own GDDR7 would also be scheduled for the end of 2023. Micron, on the other hand, would be a little off the hook. Its GDDR7 won’t arrive until the first half of 2024, and NVIDIA is reportedly close to signing with Samsung for its next line-up.

Micron would therefore no longer be in the starting blocks to once again supply NVIDIA. However, it is surprising to see that businesskorea does not mention a potential agreement between NVIDIA and SK Hynix, while the latter seems to be in the race. An exclusive soon to be announced?
