While the Samsung Galaxy S24 should be launched in January 2024, rumors are rife regarding the Korean manufacturer’s next flagship. If all the clues seem to point towards the return of an Exynos chip for this future model, Samsung will, it seems, put all the chances on its side for the graphics part.

AMD FSR in the Galaxy S24?

According to user @Tech_Reve on X (Twitter), Samsung is developing with AMD and Qualcomm a version of FidelityFX Super Resolution technology (or FSR for short) for its Galaxy range smartphones.

AMD’s FSR already exists on PC as well as on portable consoles such as Asus ROG Ally and allows the machine to work on a low definition image before performing scaling (upscaling) at higher definition. This is the competing solution to Nvidia’s DLSS, promising significant performance gains in many games.

However, we do not know which version of the FSR is being developed for mobile, but we nevertheless doubt that it offers the Fluid Motion FramesAMD’s AI image generation technology.

This technology should logically integrate future Samsung smartphones running on Exynos and its Xclipse 940 GPU based on AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture. But the presence of Qualcomm in this initiative indicates that the FSR could also be implemented in the Snapdragon versions of smartphones across the Atlantic, while the manufacturer unveiled its own scaling technology in April 2023 with the GSR (Snapdragon Game Super Resolution).

The iPhone 15 Pro in sight

We already know that this future Samsung GPU will natively support the effects of ray tracingjust like the competition at Apple with the A17 Pro of the iPhone 15 Pro.

The addition of AMD FSR to Samsung smartphones here comes in response to the addition of MetalFX to iOS 17, the technologyupscaling from Apple originally developed for Mac.

We should know more within two months, with the announcement and launch of the Samsung Galaxy S24 expected in January 2024.
