Samsung does not want to repeat the error made with the Galaxy S22. According to the analyst Ming Chikuo, Samsung would soon consider replacing its in-house chips with those from Qualcomm for its next high-end smartphones.

A first step towards a complete transition

According to him, Qualcomm would a priori become the one and only supplier of the Galaxy S23 chips. Samsung would 100% adopt Qualcomm’s next chip in its devices, not being able to compete with the future Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

1. Qualcomm will likely be the sole processor supplier for Samsung Galaxy S23 (vs. 70% shipment proportion for S22) thanks to the next flagship 5G chip SM8550 made by TSMC 4nm.

There were already rumors of a possible cessation of production of Exynos chips for 2023 which would allow Samsung to focus solely on its new in-house chip. This hypothesis now seems on the verge of becoming a reality.

Qualcomm’s next chip engraved in 4nm by TSMC would be better optimized and would have obvious power and energy efficiency advantages over the previous model that a new chip from Samsung could not have filled.

A game-changing decision for Qualcomm

Qualcomm’s chips had so far almost always avoided the European market when it came to Samsung smartphones and were replaced here by Exynos chips which offered notable differences in terms of power and heat management.

The move would result in a bigger market share for Qualcomm in the high-end Android market in 2023, with the company only supplying 70% of the chips used in the Galaxy S22 so far.

We’ll have to wait a few more months to find out what strategy Samsung will adopt in anticipation of its upcoming announced transition to its own hardware, but this news should please Samsung fans who would also be entitled to faster updates than before. here shortly.
