In a letter addressed to the Senate, more specifically to Gérard Larcher and François-Noël Buffet, respectively President of the Senate and President (LR) of the Laws Committee, revealed this Monday, May 22 by the media FactualMickaëlle Paty, sister of Samuel Paty, assassinated on October 16, 2020, requests the opening of a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the “dysfunctions”, having led to the tragedy.
“Like anyone else, I was not prepared to suffer the violence of a terrorist attack, nor, moreover, to hear my mother’s scream telling me that my brother had been beheaded”, confides, in the preamble, the sister younger of the professor, in his missive – two pages written in the first person. “The amazement is over, all that remains is pain and questions,” she continues.

Refusing to “restrict to look at the common enemy as the only evil”, Mickaëlle Paty then broadens the spectrum of the imputability of the facts: “Fighting those who commit such crimes is obvious; nevertheless, would the division of responsibility invoked judicially prevent me from emphasizing that the inaction of so-called “good” men could be called into question? Besides […] Did he not fulfill his part of the social contract so that the State did not assure him of its protection? she asks.

While Samuel Paty’s family has filed a complaint against the Ministries of the Interior and National Education for “failure to prevent crime and non-assistance to anyone in danger” and that fourteen defendants, including six minors, will be tried by the juvenile court and a special assize court, Mickaëlle Paty urges senators to “establish the flaws in this drama and try to plug the breaches”.
Samuel Paty’s family and “a number of his colleagues […] deserve that we examine this request with attention, a desire for justice and at the same time a form of respectful empathy”, reacted the President of the Senate (LR) Gérard Larcher, this Wednesday, April 24, on CNews. ” [Il] brought his share, more than his share, since he gave his life for educational principles,” he added.
