A COMEDY FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Time of the year conducive to family catch-up sessions warm under a blanket, the winter holidays are underway for many or are about to begin for some. The perfect opportunity to (re)discover the animated film Samurai Academy, now available on DVD and VOD.

Hank is a playful dog who dreams of being a samurai in a world where this privilege is reserved… only for cats. Mocked, refused by all the samurai schools, he meets a big grumpy tomcat, a master warrior who ends up agreeing to teach him the ancestral techniques. When the Shogun’s army of cats sweeps through the city, the apprentice samurai’s courage and cunning will finally come in handy.

Filled with gags, puns and references, this supercharged adventure immerses viewers in a universe between westerns and martial arts films, through the story of the adorable Hank, who has a lot of trouble finding his place in this world. Thanks to a clever mix of humor and action, this feature film will appeal to both children and their parents!

THE CREATIVE TEAM OF THE FILM

To bring this project to life, we obviously needed a team of choice. In the production, we find a brilliant trio: Rob Minkoff (to whom we owe The Lion King, Stuart Little or Mr. Peabody and Sherman: Time Travel), Mark Koetsier (who worked on Pocahontas, Tarzan and The Hunchback of Notre-Dame among others) and Chris Bailey (Kim Possible, Scooby-Doo and company).

The film, which is inspired by the comedy The Sheriff is in prison by Mel Brooks, was also able to count on the expertise of the latter for the writing of its screenplay. Now 96 years old, the legendary director also takes on the role of executive producer and lends his voice to the character of the Shogun in original version.

A new opportunity for the man to whom we owe the comedies Les Producteurs and La Folle Histoire du monde to show the full extent of his talent in terms of humor, even for children. The music was entrusted to the composer Bear McCreary.

AN ODE TO TOLERANCE

One of the great strengths of Samouraï Academy is its message: the film advocates benevolence, open-mindedness and diversity, by depicting the path strewn with pitfalls of a dog in a city where it is not welcome because of the prejudices of its inhabitants. The feature film also shows that intelligence and ingenuity are often much more effective than force alone.

After having attracted more than a million spectators in French cinemas, a nice surprise for an animated film which is not from a famous franchise, Samouraï Academy is now on your shelves or in your virtual library.
