Sandhausen is relegated from the 2nd league: Heidenheim can rise with an HSV slip

Sandhausen descends from the 2nd league
Heidenheim can rise with HSV slip

1. FC Heidenheim had a long run against Sandhausen, only the goal of substitute Jan-Niklas Beste redeemed the hosts. If HSV doesn’t win in the evening, Frank Schmidt’s team will be promoted directly. In the meantime, the first decisions are being made in the table basement of the 2nd Bundesliga.

1. FC Heidenheim – SV Sandhausen 1-0 (0-0)

1. FC Heidenheim is about to be promoted to the Bundesliga, while SV Sandhausen has to be relegated to the 3rd division. The Heidenheimer prevailed on the 33rd and penultimate match day 1-0 (0-0) against the sand houses. Jan-Niklas Beste (68th) scored for the hosts to win.

With 64 points, FCH, second in the table, increased the gap to Hamburger SV, who can improve against SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the evening, initially to four points. If HSV lost in the evening, Heidenheim would have been promoted for good.

Sandhausen has 28 points one game day before the end of the season, so the saving bank is out of reach. The SVS has played in the second division since 2012.

In the eleventh minute, Heidenheim’s Denis Thomalla had the first good chance for the hosts, but he couldn’t get the ball over the line with his tackle. In the 39th minute, Sandhausen’s Alexander Esswein was unlucky with a shot at the post.

Arminia Bielefeld – SC Paderborn 2: 2 (2: 1)

Arminia Bielefeld, who have been relegated to the first division, is also one class lower with their backs to the wall. Coach Uwe Koschinat’s team couldn’t get past a 2-2 (2-1) draw against SC Paderborn in the Ostwestfalen derby and will go from relegation place 16 into the last matchday next Sunday. Then it goes to the already saved 1. FC Magdeburg.

Bryan Lasme (8th) and former Paderborner Sebastian Vasiliadis (36th) put Arminen in the lead twice. Paderborn, who would have at least maintained their mathematically minimal chance of being promoted to third place with a win, countered with Marvin Pieringer (24th) and Sirlord Conteh (58th).

The Bielefeld team started with a high level of concentration and literally squeezed the Paderborn team in their half. Only Lasme (33rd/ 45th + 4) could have provided a reassuring lead for the DSC before the break. When it came to hitting the guests who had been too passive for a long time, the Bielefeld team acted like a relegated team. When the first goal was conceded, several Arminen pros missed clearing the ball. At 2:2, goalkeeper Martin Fraisl let a harmless long-range shot bounce off Conteh’s feet. Shortly before the end of the game, Bielefeld was very lucky when Paderborn’s Denis Srbeny (90th) hit the post from close range.

Eintracht Braunschweig – SSV Jahn Regensburg 1: 2 (1: 1)

For Jahn Regensburg, relegation can only theoretically be averted. The Upper Palatinate won 2-1 (1-1) at Eintracht Braunschweig, but that shouldn’t be enough to stay up. The hosts missed the ultimate rescue. The gap to Arminia Bielefeld in relegation rank 16 is only three points, but the goal difference clearly speaks for East Westphalia. SSV Jahn has been playing in the second division since 2017.

Immanuel Pherai (2nd) gave Eintracht an early lead, but Regensburg didn’t give up and managed to equalize 1-1 through Charalambos Makridis (21st). Prince Osei Owusu (49th) gave Jahn the lead. In the aftermath, Der Jahn lost to Makridis with a yellow-red card (90+4).

Jahn coach Joe Enochs had changed his starting lineup to five positions compared to the 5-1 defeat at home against Hamburger SV. Nevertheless, his team was easily outplayed when it was 0-1, Pherai using a body trick was enough to create space for his shot on goal.

But the guests were not discouraged, Jahn continued to accept the duels and deservedly equalized. Regensburg could have taken the lead in the 30th minute, but Owusu’s weak penalty shot was denied by goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann. This was preceded by a foul by Filip Benkovic on Owusu. In the second half he was more accurate.
