Sandrine Rousseau would like the establishment of a “crime of non-sharing of domestic tasks”

Monday, March 21, the finalist of the environmental primary Sandrine Rousseau was the guest of Madmoizelle for a live Twitch. An intervention during which she addressed the subject of gender inequalities.

Excluded from Yannick Jadot’s campaign at the beginning of March, Sandrine Rousseau still raised many societal issues, with the presidential election fast approaching (first round on April 10).

It was during her speech that she made a very noticeable proposal: that of setting up “a crime of non-sharing of domestic tasks” in the same way as domestic violence, for example. She denounces an “unthought of gender equality policies” and assures that “the private is political and as long as we do not give women the means to truly obtain equality on sharing, we will not succeed. “.

She recalls, however, that this is a wish and not a proposal, not being a presidential candidate. Sandrine Rousseau, defeated in the environmental primary, should still present herself in the 13th arrondissement of Paris for the legislative elections.

The gap is widening

During the health crisis and its confinements, the situation is far from having improved for women. An increase in gender-based violence, a decline in mental health, but also more and more inequalities in the distribution of household tasks between men and women have been observed.

A study conducted by the UN shows that women, during the pandemic, spent more time on household chores than on their jobs, compared to men and compared to before the health crisis. These studies reveal that “inequalities have widened and we have fallen behind by twenty years”, denounces in AFP Marion Tillous, lecturer in geography and gender studies at the University of Paris VIII.

According to another INSEE study from 2012, women perform 72% of household chores, for an average of 1.5 hours of additional daily work compared to men.
