Sanef announces the installation of ultra-fast charging stations in all areas of its motorway network

The Société des Autoroutes du Nord et de l’Est de la France (Sanef) wants to make long-distance journeys possible with an electric car and allow all or part of its battery to be recharged in just a few minutes.

This program aims to install nearly 500 ultra-fast electric charging points (more than 150 kW) at Sanef’s 72 service areas by the end of 2022. To achieve this, the company has commissioned three operators: Engie , Fastned and TotalEnergies.

Thanks to this initiative, it will be possible to make journeys of several hundred kilometers without worrying about finding charging points along the way. These terminals will recharge most batteries to 80% in just 15 minutes, which is precisely equivalent to the average duration of a motorway rest area. These terminals will obviously be accessible to everyone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and their payment will be made on a fee-for-service basis, exactly as for a classic passage to the pump for petrol or diesel.

An Ile-de-France resident can thus hope to go to the sea, to Normandy, but also to go to Belgium or Germany, on board his electric car, with the assurance of easily finding fast charging points on the Sanef network.

The other French motorway companies should follow this trend, so that by 2023 all rest areas in the country will be equipped with fast charging stations. In 2021, only half of them were equipped with electric charging stations.
