Sanofi SASY.PA has decided to sell its consumer health division, Opella, to the American private equity fund Clayton Dubilier & Rice (CD&R), reported Thursday evening Les Echos et le Monde.

The French pharmaceutical group had received buyout offers for its consumer health division, which notably manufactures Doliprane, from CD&R and the French investment fund PAI Partners.

Sanofi’s board of directors voted in favor of CD&R’s offer and decided “to open exclusive discussions with the American fund”, report Les Echos, citing sources.

According to information from Le Monde, Sanofi has chosen to enter into negotiations with CD&R “in order to sell (…) Opella for more than 15 billion euros”, a valuation “higher than that of PAI”.

In October 2023, Sanofi announced that it was studying various potential scenarios for separating its consumer division via a sale or an IPO.
