For years, singer Sarah Connor, 44, has been using her fame to send socio-political messages to the public. She repeatedly took a position on stage and on her social media accounts about the rise of the AfD or the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Now yesterday, October 2nd, she and her fans campaigned in front of the Danish Embassy in Berlin for the release of the prominent Canadian-American environmental activist and whale protector Paul Watson, 73.

Whale protector Watson in custody since July 2024

Watson has been in custody in Greenland since July 2024, the reason for this is an arrest warrant issued by Japan due to previous protests against Japanese whalers. Yesterday, October 2nd, the Danish Ministry of Justice (Greenland is an autonomous territory of the country) was due to decide whether the environmental activist should remain in custody or be released.

Outraged by Paul Watson’s imprisonment, Sarah Connor organized via her Instagram account a spontaneous demonstration in front of the Danish embassy with the central demand “Free Paul Watson now”. As “RTL” reportsshe was actually able to persuade over 20 of her loyal supporters to appear in front of the embassy on the specified date with self-made signs to demand the immediate release of the whale protector.

Sarah Connor moved to tears by fan support

“That touches me and brings tears to my eyes,” said the committed musician into the camera. And added: “I pray that Paul Watson will be acquitted. He never hurt anyone.”

With her action, Connor sent a clear signal against the injustice that she sees as the criminalization of the radical environmental activist. As “Yahoo” reportshowever, she could not prevent the court in Greenland from deciding to extend Watson’s pre-trial detention until October 23, until a final decision was made on possible extradition to Japan.

After the demo, the singer thanked her fellow campaigners for their support on Instagram and promised: “I will argue with ambassadors and governments and continue to annoy me until they raise their voices against it and something changes.”
