Satechi’s M1 USB-C adapter the best way to add ports to a MacBook or iPad

I know we’re moving more and more into a wireless world, but I still need my ports. USB-C, HDMI, and even USB-A ports are still useful. That’s why, while I love my new iPad Pro M2, I find its single USB-C port very limiting.

Finally, I found its restrictive single USB-C port, until I discovered Satechi’s M1 USB-C adapter (don’t let the “M1” fool you, it works just as well on M2 hardware). The accessory is sold for approximately €160 (shipping costs included) on the Satechi website.

The power of USB C

The M1 USB-C Media Adapter features two 4K (60Hz/30Hz) HDMI ports, a USB-C port for charging, a separate USB-C data port and two USB-A data ports 3.0. And it all comes through a single USB-C connection.

Note that dual HDMI output support requires installation of SiliconMotion InstantView software.

A compact design

As is the case with all Satechi products, this adapter is not only functional, it is also very elegant. With its brushed aluminum finish, it blends seamlessly into the ocean of similarly designed Apple products.

And since it is rather compact (12 x 6 x 1.8 cm and weighs 140 g), it is small enough to slip into a pocket or in the case of your iPad or your laptop.

As with nearly all Satechi products, I can’t fault the M1 USB-C Media Adapter much. If I had to find a fault with it, I would say that the connection cable is sometimes a little short and that it deserves to be detachable. But I also know that if it were detachable, I would detach it, use it elsewhere and probably lose it. And if it were longer, it would add to the bulk.

No, Satechi’s M1 USB-C Media Adapter is as close to perfect as an adapter can get.
