Satellite images show giant mass grave near Mariupol

The American company Maxar has unveiled new satellite images which show the existence of a mass grave about twenty kilometers from Mariupol, in Ukraine.

Maxar Technologies’ satellites revolve around the globe. And take thousands of photos, including hard-to-reach war zones in Ukraine. Thus, new images provided Thursday by the American space imaging company, show the existence of a huge mass grave located about twenty kilometers west of Mariupol, next to an already existing cemetery. The site is located precisely northwest of the town of Manhouch. According to Maxar Technologies, the pit expanded between March 23-26, 2022 and has continued to expand over the past two weeks. At present, there are said to be over 200 rows of tombs lined up in four sections. The set is located in a field of 4,000 square meters.

In a message posted on Telegram, the mayor of Mariupol Vadym Boïchenko declared that in Manhouch, “the occupants would have buried between 3,000 and 9,000 residents”. “They dig holes thirty meters and bring the bodies of the inhabitants of Mariupol in trucks”. He also estimated at 20,000 the number of people killed in the shelling of Mariupol since the start of the Russian offensive.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ruled Thursday that his forces had “successfully” taken control of Mariupol, ordering to besiege the last Ukrainian fighters rather than storming the Azovstal industrial site where they are entrenched. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in addition to some 2,000 Ukrainian soldiers, “about a thousand civilians, women and children” and “hundreds of wounded” are also refugees in this factory.
