In a press release shared on September 15, Apple promised a deployment in December for its satellite SOS functionality in certain countries of the old continent. The firm then soberly explained that the functions ” Emergency SOS by satellite and Locate by satellite (…) will arrive in France, Germany, Ireland and the United Kingdom next December “. Obviously, here we are.

A source has indeed whispered in the ear of MacRumors that this emergency feature would be rolling out to the UK in the next few days. More specifically, we learn that across the Channel, emergency services personnel have been informed that calls from the satellite SOS function of the iPhone 14 will be routed to local emergency services from December 13. Clearly, the deployment of this novelty would take place next Tuesday with our British neighbors.

Imminent launch in France too?

If the thing materializes well next week in Great Britain, it is a safe bet that it will arrive in stride in France and in the other European countries concerned. As specified MacRumorsit is also possible that this function of SOS by satellite arrives at home, in Germany and Ireland, at the same time as iOS 16.2.

As a reminder, this emergency feature is only compatible on iPhone 14 / 14 Pro in eligible countries. Apple takes it upon itself to offer it for free for two years, beginning “ of the activation date of a new iPhone 14 “clarified the mark in September.

Available in the United States and Canada for almost two months, this SOS system makes it possible to contact emergency services using satellite connectivity, outdoors, when no cellular or Wi-Fi connection is available. This feature is aimed primarily at the more adventurous users, who might find themselves in remote areas with no other way to call for help in the event of an accident.
