Google Maps has long ceased to be a place where you just quickly look for a route. The developers are now testing a new adaptation that makes it much easier to keep an eye on multiple results during a search – a short location memory, so to speak.
Finally a cache for researching on Google Maps
For years, Google Maps has offered more than just navigation and integrates countless information into the map service. And so it is also not uncommon in everyday life to want to jump back and forth between several results in extensive searches – for example for restaurants. A favorites list is provided here for long-term storage. Up to now, however, there has not been a convenient way of temporarily storing the data when the search is active. Now the developers are trying to find a solution.

As the Search Engine Roundtable reports, the map makers are currently testing a new function that makes it possible to pin locations and companies at the bottom of the map. For this purpose, a corresponding button “Pin down” has been integrated into the user interface, which is placed on the detail page of the search results. With one click, the entry is stored in the form of a small icon in a fold-out footer on the map surface.
As reported by Googlewatchblog, an implementation is also being tested in which all locations called up during a visit simply automatically end up in the tab bar. So, at the moment, we are still at a very early stage of testing in which we are testing the new interface and various configurations with a small group of map users.
Lots of new possibilities
For Google Maps, based on this new function, many more features would definitely be conceivable. To be able to transfer the created tab overviews to a list that can be called up comes close to the existing favorites storage, but would offer a much better overview. Since the cache is currently only being tested on the desktop version of Maps, the option to synchronize with other devices makes sense later.
