For washing, drying and ironing, we have four tips that you can use to save energy and therefore money.

1. Don’t wash so hot anymore!

According to the IKW, the industrial association for body care and detergents, thanks to modern detergents, you can usually do without grandma’s 90°C hot wash. If you wash at 60°C instead, you save a lot of energy and at the same time protect the laundry and the environment. For lightly soiled laundry, 40°C or 30°C or even lower temperatures are sufficient. Up to 50 percent of the energy can be saved in this way save on.

2. Don’t do things by halves!

It is best to only wash with one at a time fully loaded Washing machine – That saves time and money. Depending on the volume, it helps to weigh the pile of laundry to find out the weight of the load. Exceptions: A lower maximum load applies for delicates and linen (about half full), with textiles made of wool and silk the machine should only be filled a quarter.

3. Dry with solar energy and wind power!

It goes without saying that drying your laundry outdoors on the clothesline saves the most energy and money – because sun and wind are free. But that is often not possible in the big city, in winter and when the weather is bad. If drying in the fresh air is not possible, the following tips are helpful:

  • Spin the laundry at the highest possible speed – the lower the residual moisture in the laundry, the more time and energy is saved.
  • Many easy-care textiles can simply be dried on a hanger after spinning.
  • If possible, do not dry laundry in heated rooms, as this uses more energy than using a tumble dryer.

4. Iron fast with this trick!

Ironing requires less energy than drying, but more than washing. Time-consuming ironing can be made easier by using a fabric softener, which prevents the laundry from becoming heavily wrinkled. This makes it quicker and easier to iron.

In addition: The ironing should not be too dry so that ironing can be done effortlessly and quickly and thus requires less energy, money and time.
