Whether backpacking through the country, relaxing with all-inclusive or immersing yourself in a city: Here you can read how you can save on your favorite holiday despite price increases.

As the booking figures show, this year the sometimes blatant price increases do not reduce the desire to travel and the obviously great need to catch up on vacation. But if you are smart, you still save, because both demand and price jumps are not the same everywhere.

1) Summer, sun, beach: all inclusive for those looking for relaxation

All-inclusive vacations appeal to those who don’t want to worry about anything and just want to relax. Popular travel destinations here are traditionally countries such as Turkey or Egypt – these are currently in particularly high demand, even though they have the highest price jumps. Flight prices in particular have increased massively: If you fly to Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt in the summer, you may pay more than to New York. Both countries are also groaning under high inflation.

Those looking for an inexpensive all-inclusive holiday should look for unusual chill-out destinations. The United Arab Emirates also recorded small price increases Abu Dhabi or Dubai. Also a vacation on Zanzibarin Mexico or on Cuba can be cheaper this year than in the classic Mediterranean regions.

2) Culture and enjoyment on a city trip

Prague instead of Paris and Ljubljana instead of London: Traditionally, Eastern European cities are cheaper to vacation in than Western ones. But this year, even a popular Western European city has only seen a price increase of around two percent: Lisbon. Above all, the low prices for food and accommodation in the city on the Tejo have a positive effect on the holiday budget.

3) Adventure and culture for backpackers

A classic destination for backpackers is Thailand: Fantastic beaches and an exciting culture meet affordable flights and cheap accommodation. But as the “PayPal Travel Compass 2023” shows, Thailand is currently affected by price increases of up to 20 percent and flights have also become expensive.

Here comes Portugal back into play with its comparatively low price increases. There are great beaches, from the Algarve in the south to the Costa Verde in the north, beautiful villages and great cities like Lisbon or Porto. India, Vietnam or the Balkans (with Albania or Slovenia) are also great alternatives to Thailand, which is often very touristy.
