Most of us have to save because the salary is too small or the wishes are too big. Or because old-age provision is pressing. Here are 9 savings tips from the editorial team.

Saving is always a good idea: not least because times may come when we urgently need money. And when we don’t need it, we squander it to make our life dreams come true. Not wrong either. We asked the editorial staff how their colleagues save – here are 9 answers:

Flea markets are my mecca

“Saving doesn’t hurt if you combine it with something that’s fun: I like going to flea markets, there I always find treasure. Most of the time I try to get what I need secondhand and sometimes go with one Shopping list on the flea market. Nice side effect: I often find things that are unique, like my vases from the 1960s. ”

Clothes swap party: advice included

“I always look forward to the evening of clothes swapping with my friends: everyone brings bad purchases and clothes that no longer fit. Then a funny mess begins, the honest advice is included. Besides that, people eat and drink a glass of life – ans None of us think about saving. ”

Keep an eye on your account balance

“A few years ago I got into the habit of not letting my account balance fall below a certain amount. I set the amount anew every month. This way I remain flexible if, for example, there are additional expenses due to a vacation or the like Towards the end of the month I notice that it is getting tight, I change my habits – for example, I have to cook myself more instead of going out to eat or organize a girls’ evening at home instead of drinking cocktails in a bar. That requires a little self-discipline, it works but surprisingly well for me. “

Smear bread in the morning

“We have a great canteen in our publishing house with a tempting breakfast menu – but spending one or two euros every morning on a sandwich or a yogurt is actually nonsense. Extrapolated this luxury breakfast for the year is almost a short vacation. That’s why I just make myself a piece of bread in the morning or prepare overnight oats the evening before. And plan my next weekend trip in my head. ”

Use capital-forming benefits

“I take advantage of the wealth-creating benefits offer and top up the employer’s subsidy to a good round amount.”

Let small cattle mess up

“My friend and I collect our 1 and 2-cent pieces in a glass and bring the money to the Bundesbank every few months. Small sums of money come together unnoticed, which we are always happy about.”

Cycling and jogging

“Bicycles instead of cars or public transport, jogging instead of fitness studio: I save a lot by making almost all trips in the city by bike instead of a car or local public transport. It also keeps you fit, just like mine Jogging in the park. I also save money by running: fees for the gym or for sports courses. ”

Reminder: terminate contracts

“Because of acute procrastination and forgetfulness, I have often paid too much for cell phone contracts or gym memberships in the past. That no longer happens to me. I have my cell phone remind me that I have to terminate my contracts. New contracts or loyalty bonuses are often much cheaper, and that saves a lot of money. “
