The city of Paris, in partnership with an insurer, is launching home insurance for low-income tenants in private and social housing in order to fight against the lack of insurance, a reason for breach of lease and eviction, we have learned on Tuesday.
This insurance, officially launched on January 9 by the mutualist group Vyv (Harmonie Mutuelle, MNT), potentially concerns 400,000 Parisian households and offers a unique pricein all the districts, according to the number of rooms, indicated the town hall in a press release.
This will represent for the tenants savings ranging from 50euros to almost 250euros per year compared to the average insurance market, adds the city, which thus wishes to restore purchasing power to Parisian tenants.
Two criteria fulfill
In addition to living in Paris, two conditions are necessary to be able to subscribe: to be tenant of his principal residence and have a reference tax income of less than 24,316 euros gross for a single person, and 36,341 euros for two people.
We started from the observation that many Parisians are uninsured and we launched a call for expressions of interest for which we received nine offers, specified the PCF housing assistant Ian Brossat, specifying that the city does not put its hand the pocket. This experience has meaning, beyond purchasing power. Today, the middle class is also a fragile public, we must be able to retain them in Paris, said PS mayor Anne Hidalgo.
Home Insurance : save up to 100 € per year thanks to our online comparator
Some 1500 pre-registrations have already been recorded and 200 subscriptions made. Our objective is not to make a profit but to break even within five years, with 15,000 subscriptions per year, explained Benjamin Haddad, vice-president of Vyv Conseil. We wanted to offer the simplest possible offer, without excluding the entry, and contracts without small lines as is often reproached to insurers, he added.
