Scam: beware of fake emails from Darty: Femme Actuelle Le MAG


The scams are rife at this end of year period. Some Internet users have received in recent days an email appearing to come from Darty customer service with the subject line "your order has been confirmed". Immediately thinking that their bank card could have been hacked, they quickly clicked on the proposed button: "Cancel my order". Fault ! Obviously, like any good phishing attempt that respects itself, the content of the email echoes the graphic design of the chain stores and, to attract your attention, includes your name and your postal address.

Once informed that an expensive order has been made in his name, the recipient is offered the cancellation of his purchase. The scam is well put together since the landing page contains the Darty logo but also his personal contact details already pre-filled. Everything seems to inspire confidence. Final step: he is invited to give your bank details in order to "prove that you are the account holder". Be careful, this is obviously a scam, more precisely a phishing operation intended to recover your data and use it.

A well-established scam

This is not the first time that thugs have usurped the identity of Fnac and Darty. In 2018, the national assistance system for victims of cyber-malware published a press release on the subject. "A now widespread cyber-fraud is trying to make you believe that someone has ordered something with your account and ask you for your credit card number to cancel the transaction," could we read this summer on the Twitter account. But obviously, the scam unfortunately seems to be quite convincing and profitable for cybercriminals.

Actions to adopt

What to do if you receive such an email? Do not click on any link, do not reply and delete the mail immediately. If you have any doubts about the origin of the emails you receive, you can also contact the brand in question by phone. She can tell you if she is the sender of the questionable email. You can also report this type of content on the official internet-signalement.gouv.fr portal.
