UFC-Que Choisir launched an alert on Monday for Leboncoin users. People are scamming sellers on the platform.
The consumer defense association reported the story of Elie, who had put his computer up for sale on the site.
A potential buyer then presented himself by offering to pay on Leboncoin’s secure payment system. The seller then received a confirmation email, supposedly sent by the platform.
Cautious, Elie inquired about the secure payment system. He then noticed that the confirmation email should have arrived in Leboncoin’s secure messaging system and not by email.
He also learned that other sellers have been victims of this process. Once reported to the platform, the “buyer” account was deactivated.
UFC-Que Choisir reminded users to be on their guard and be wary despite secure payment systems. The association recommends that users give preference to hand-delivery or shipment by Chronopost.
