The exhibition “Being a Child” at the Schallaburg showed insights into the lives of children in the present and past. The importance of the little ones then and now was also shown.

Children, even those who are classified as “difficult” by part of society, should be able to grow up happy, free and self-determined. In order to give all children a voice in the adult world, discussion formats also took place as part of the exhibition. “8,000 voices were heard that were aimed at adults,” it says. Experts such as psychologist Theresia Detzlhofer, UNICEF Austria boss Christoph Jünger and ethicist Gottfried Schweiger took part in the final discussion. Detzlhofer: “Being a child should mean being able to grow up, dream and be amazed in a protected environment.” Discussion topic “Childhood” The aim of the exhibition – which was seen by 130,084 guests – was also to create awareness of the rights of children. At the end of the season, Schallaburg managing director Peter Fritz said: “We convey messages with our exhibitions. We want to stimulate exchange. That’s why we tried to create dialogue situations – through guided tours, through the conversation laboratory or, for example, through the classic change of perspective in the first room.” Summary: “Childhood” must remain a topic of discussion in all areas!
