Scheider promises – “Salary increases as soon as the budget allows!”

All-clear in the town hall: After Mayor Christian Scheider’s conversation with union representatives about the announced zero wage round for the 1,800 town hall employees, there is no longer any talk of a strike. “As a personnel officer, I will work to ensure that there is a pay rise as soon as the city budget allows it again,” promises Scheider.

Several representatives of the union as well as the personnel representatives Gerd Laussegger and Thomas Wernitznig sat at the table with city manager Christian Scheider, finance officer Philipp Liesnig was absent. “I have stated that we have no other choice than the zero wage round,” says Scheider. “During the budget negotiations for 2022, the minus was reduced from 30 to 19 million euros. It’s dramatic. The zero wage round cannot therefore be averted. It has never been so difficult to draw up a budget for decades. ” There was already a zero wage round in 2016. “At that time the situation was not so dramatic, and no structural reforms were decided afterwards.” Now the situation is clear. A working group with Patrick Jonke (TK), Julian Geier (VP) and the Liesnig office manager Tina Petritz was founded, which controls all budget measures. There are allowances every year. Many have accused the city government of adding 500,000 euros in allowances in October paid to selected employees, but now there is no more money for a wage increase. “Allowances are paid out every year, which proves that our employees are important to us,” says Scheider. Personnel representatives on board It will probably not expire without credit ratings. “We have three or four points that we have to think about, and so does the union. We’ll talk more about these plans next week, ”said Scheider. This is confirmed by the staff representative Laussegger: “It was a constructive meeting. We wanted to be included in the talks from the start. At the weekend we let the matter go through our heads and prepare ideas. ”The city is also negotiating with the state. “The association of cities is affected. The taxes for Klagenfurt and Villach increase from year to year. Soon we will no longer be able to draw up budgets, ”says Scheider.
