The parodic musical series “Schmigadoon!” Apple TV+ is getting a second season. After Melissa Gimble (Cecily Strong) and Josh Skinner (Keegan-Michael Key) got caught up in the wondrous musical world of Schmigadoon (based on the classic film musical “Brigadoon”) in the first season, a different challenge awaits them in the new episodes. Schmigadoon! Season 2: Start Date

The second season of “Schmigadoon!” will be released on April 7, 2023. on Apple TV+. You can expect six new episodes that will be published weekly on the streaming service.

Schmigadoon! Season 2: Trailers

Exactly one month before the start of Season 2 “Schmigadoon!” Apple TV+ released a first trailer for the new musical adventure. But instead of happy trilling, the new season strikes much darker tones. In the short clip we get a first impression of the sometimes very melancholy songs.

Schmigadoon! Season 2: Storyline

Season 1 of “Schmigadoon” was an homage to the musicals of the 1940s. In season 2, the comedy series now deals with the musicals of the 60s, 70s and 80s. Of course, with Melissa and Josh ending up in Schmicago, the 1975 musical Chicago will be a major source of inspiration for the new episodes. Other musicals that will be part of Season 2 are the musicals “Sweeney Todd” and “Cabaret”.

We are in the age of darker musicals. I think Melissa and Josh miss “Schmigadoon”. They want to go back because they miss the color and the fun and everything. Then, as they actually walk back, they realize, “Oh crap. That’s not Schmigadoon. That’s Schmicago, and that’s not a musical we want to get stuck in.”

Schmigadoon! Season 2: Cast and Production

In addition to Cecily Strong as Melissa, Keegan-Michael Key as Josh and Dove Cameron, you can expect many new and old actors and actresses. Tituss Burgess (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”) and Patrick Page (“The Gilded Age”) join the cast.

Ariana DeBose, Martin Short, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski and Aaron Tveit will reprise their roles. The brains behind the series are Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio.
