sev./bta. /(dpa) At around 7.30 a.m., police witnesses reported on Monday that two girls had been attacked and injured in Oberkirchberg, near Ulm, Germany. The alerted emergency services immediately took care of the 13 and 14-year-old girls and took them to clinics. The 14-year-old, a German with a migration background, died there during the day.

Perpetrators fled to asylum seekers accommodation

The police immediately began investigating. She learned that the attacker had come from a neighboring accommodation for asylum seekers and had fled there again after the crime. When the police searched it with special forces, they found three residents there, all asylum seekers from Eritrea. She took two with her to the office. The third was injured and required medical treatment.

According to the investigators’ findings so far, the girls were probably attacked with a knife. The girls were on their way to school at the time. The 14-year-old had to be revived at the scene after the attack before being taken to the hospital, where she died despite all medical efforts. The 13-year-old, also a German citizen, had to be treated in a clinic with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The 27-year-old, who was found injured at the shelter, is suspected of assaulting the girls. Police also found a knife on him, which is believed to be a murder weapon. The suspect is currently in a hospital under police guard.

Investigations continue

The public prosecutor’s office and the police are now investigating why the two girls were attacked and whether the suspect and the two girls knew each other beforehand.

The mayor of the town, Markus Häussler, said to “Bild”: “The community is shocked. We are all deeply affected and mourn with the family.”

The police emphasize that they are aware that events of this kind fuel fears and emotions. She therefore asks that no general suspicion be raised against strangers, those seeking protection or asylum seekers, or that such suspicions be abetted or supported.
