Since July 2022, motorcycle helmet manufacturers must comply with the new ECE 22.06 standard. This revision of the regulations involves taking into account 12 additional impact points, compared to six for regulation 22.05, in order to increase the level of protection in real conditions. If manufacturers have until July 2023 to stop production (and January 2024 for sale), many brands are starting to present their new models. This is the case of Schuberth. The famous German manufacturer has just launched the S3, its first full-face helmet made in accordance with the new regulations. This Sport-GT model also features an integrated sun visor.
The new Schuberth S3 incorporates a carbon fiber reinforced DFP (Direct Fiber Processing) fiberglass shell, said to offer better shock absorption for a lighter weight. However, the manufacturer does not communicate weight for the moment. The closure is ensured by a micrometric fastener with anti-tilt system at the chinstrap.
Inside, the S3 is dressed in EPS material and has an enlarged head cavity, with two densities for the main part and the sides. Above all, the S3 is compatible with the Schuberth Individual program, aimed at customizing the internal padding thanks to various thicknesses for the sides, the crown and the cheek pads. Customization of head padding is available for sizes M/L/XL. Note that in the event of an accident, the cheek pads can be released directly thanks to the Quick Release system, allowing the neck to be relieved.
In addition to safety, Schuberth says he has focused on aerodynamics with long hours in the wind tunnel, a way for the manufacturer to improve soundproofing. On the front side there is a double air inlet with an exchangeable filter; at the rear, the spoiler is widened for better air extraction.
Finally, note that the Schubert S3 is compatible with the Plug & Play communication system based on a Sena 50S system with speakers, a Mesh antenna, an FM radio antenna and a Bluetooth antenna pre-installed in the shell of the helmet.
The price starts at €549 for the plain colors, and it will take €649 for the decorative versions.
