Scorpions: 3 essential slows to (re)listen to

As the rock band released a new album on February 25, “Rock Believer”, a look back at three notable slows from German artists.

Always Somewhere

The title “Always Somewhere” appears on the German group’s sixth album “Lovedrive”, released in February 1979. It is one of the fans’ favorite ballads. The album contains many of the band’s classics, such as the instrumental ‘Coast to Coast’.

The title evokes a love story, a man looking for the woman who haunts his thoughts. “Always somewhere, Miss you where I’ve been, I’ll be back to love you again,” the chorus goes.

Still Loving You

“Love, only love.” All lovers have probably already slow danced to “Still Loving You”, one of the most famous songs of the German group. Released in 1984 on the album “Love at First Sting”, it was very successful, especially in France. It will also be the best-selling title of 1984.

Lasting over six minutes, the song features two long verses and two choruses. A solo of over a minute serves as the song’s conclusion. However, the theme is not a love story but rather a reference to the partition of Germany, at the time still divided between West and East.

Wind of Change

“Wind of Change” was composed in 1990 by band singer Klaus Meine and released on the “Crazy World” album.

The lyrics of the song are this time inspired by the first Western rock music festival given in the Soviet bloc, in 1989: the Moscow Music Peace Festival.

The song therefore celebrates the political changes of the early 1990s in Eastern Europe, already mentioned in “Still Loving You”. In France, the song ranked No. 1 in the charts for 7 weeks between late 1990 and early 1991.
