The automotive sector has been among those in crisis since the start of the coronavirus. 3000 euros for a new car
From June 1, major motorists who are still driving in an aged petrol or diesel car are invited to part with their vehicle and invest in a thermal model. To push them in this direction and revive the economy of the automotive sector, 3000 euros will be allocated. They will then be able to buy a less polluting, new or used vehicle. The novelty of the conversion bonus this year is that rechargeable electric and hybrid vehicles with a range of more than 50km are now part of the equation. To buy one, the state raises the ceiling on the subsidy to 5000 euros.

More households affected by the premium
Until now, the scrapping bonus only concerned households below the reference tax limit (all household income), i.e. 13,489 euros. Thanks to these new measures, the threshold has been raised to 18,000 euros to allow more households to benefit. This widens the scope of the initiative to 3/4 of the French population. In order to reach more and more people, "the premium is doubled for the 20% of the poorest households and working people who do not pay taxes and travel many kilometers every day to get to their place of work (60 km) ". A 2000 euro surcharge could also be implemented for motorists who live or work in a "low emission area". The combination of the ecological bonus and the conversion bonus (which remains exceptional and applies only to the purchase of a vehicle running on hydrogen or for a light utility) can increase the amount of the check for the purchase of a new electric car in 12,000 euros per household. Note that only the owner of the car to be scrapped can be named beneficiary of the premium.

What are the conditions to benefit from the premium?
Alone the first 200,000 buyers will be able to benefit from this temporary bonus and the advantages set out above. The amount of the premium varies according to household income, the category of vehicle to buy and the number of kilometers traveled to get to work. These nuances are to be calculated directly on the government site via the simulator provided for this purpose. Regarding buyers, they must be 18 years of age and over at the time of the transaction and domiciled in France.

The new car must never have been registered and its price must not exceed 60,000 euros including tax. It can be a petrol or diesel model. In the case of an electric car purchase, the buyer can be allocated an ecological bonus. The lower the CO2 emissions, the greater the bonus. It can rise up to 7000 euros. With regard to the acquisition of a used car, the vehicles which hitherto entered the conditions of eligibility were cars or vans weighing less than 3.5 tonnes, registered in France before 2001 for diesel and before 1997 for petrol models. Old vehicles must be discarded within six months following the purchase of a new model and also meet a certain number of criteria. The scrapped vehicle must be registered in France and in good condition. If there are any flaws, they must have been covered by insurance for at least one year from the date of filing.
