Scream 6: why does this star of the saga leave the sequel?

A twist in the little Scream family! An iconic star of the franchise has refused to resume his role for the sequel to the film released at the beginning of the year!

Scream, it’s over for Neve Campbell! After having embodied the emblematic character of Sidney Prescott in the 5 feature films of the franchise, the actress has decided not to re-enlist for the new opus.

After the success of the last episode at the cinema, which brought in 140 million dollars worldwide for a budget of 25M, Paramount officially launched a sequel last February.

Filming is scheduled for the summer of 2022 with the same creative team: the duo of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, but also the two screenwriters, James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

On March 18, we learned that Courteney Cox had signed up to once again slip into the costume of journalist Gale Weathers, always eager for a scoop!

However, fans were beginning to worry: would Neve Campbell, star of the saga, also return to the legendary role of Sidney Prescott?

On June 6, the bad news falls. After tough negotiations with Paramount and Spyglass Media, the actress decided to refuse to play in the 6th installment of Scream.

Quoted by Deadlinethe actress is very clear on the subject: “Unfortunately, I will not be doing the next Scream movie”she said.

“As a woman, I’ve had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my worth, especially when it comes to Scream”she continued.

“I felt that the offer presented did not match the value I brought to the franchise. It was a very difficult decision”she explains.

The interpreter of Sidney then addressed the aficionados of the saga: “To all Scream fans, I love you. You have always been an incredible support to me. I am forever grateful to you and what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”she concluded.

Ghostface will therefore never torment Sidney Prescott again… Initiated by Wes Craven in 1997, the entire saga brought in 744 million dollars in international revenue.

If Courteney Cox stacks up again, we also know that Hayden Panettiere, present in the 4th opus, will make a comeback. Jenna Ortega, who faced the masked killer in the last episode, will also return.

Dermot Mulroney, Mason Gooding and Melissa Barrera will also be playing hide and seek with the sharp knife criminal. The film will be released on March 29, 2023 in France.
